The ERLS Restoration Crew has been busy working on the sanding and repainting of the astragals this week which are the bronze strips that hold the lantern’s weatherglass in place around the lantern. There are 128 astragals, so it is a lot of work! This maintenance project is to ward off the decay of elemental weather and erosion.
We are thankful for the U.S. Embassy grant to help us to continue this precious work. Maintenance, repair, and restoration are the KEY to preserving this cultural landmark for our community!
